Microsoft does Android on this fold-out phablet
Three years after its mobile phone ambitions came crashing down, Microsoft has announced that it’s returning to the market with a foldable handset called the Surface Duo. The device, due to go on sale at the end of 2020, marries two 5.6-inch glass displays via a 360° hinge – and the initial demonstrations suggest that the twin screens work together seamlessly. Microsoft is hoping the gadget will ‘inspire developers’ to build apps that make the most of the new technology. Interestingly, Microsoft has finally ditched its insular Windows Mobile operating system. Never mind the dual-screen theatrics, the fact that the handset now runs on the more broadly compatible Android could be what makes people sit up and take notice.
