With its Stealth range, MSI pioneered the thin gaming laptop scene, which in turn spawned a whole category of serious gaming laptops that also looked quite presentable around the office.
The GF65 is another product in this mould, but brings the slimline format
to a more price-conscious shopper in MSI’s Thin brand. Of course you’re still getting top class performance from the 9th generation i7 and the updated Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti graphics, complemented by a marvellous 15-inch full HD screen with narrow size bezels and 144 Hz refresh.
The keyboard and trackpad are pretty standard, but nothing special. There’s keyboard backlighting, but it’s not RGB. We especially enjoyed the port set which includes two USB-C ports, in addition to two regular USB ports.
What’s really hard to get your head around is the body shell which doesn’t live up to the serious price tag. The keyboard deck is aluminium alloy while the side panels are plastic. Unfortunately it felt flimsy in places, and is almost roughly finished on the edges where the panels join. It is compact, though, standing just 2.17 cm thick and weighing well under 2 kg, the weight of a typical mid-range office PC.
