Test your TV remote control

If you’re having issues with your TV remote control, you can use your phone’s camera to check it.

Start the phone’s camera app and point it to face the front of the remote, as though you were going to photograph the little transmitter bulb in the front. Now hold down any of the buttons on the remote while looking at your phone’s screen. If the TV’s remote is working properly, you should be able to see a slight pink or purple light coming from the remote’s IR diode (the little glass bulb on the front).

This is possible because the phone camera can see light in the infrared spectrum that your eyes can’t detect. If you see no light appearing on the phone screen, either the remote is faulty or its batteries have died.
